FBI launches search and arrest warrant for Cao de Benós, North Korea collaborator

The The FBI issued a search and arrest warrant on Monday. against the Spanish Alejandro Cao de Benospresident of the ‘Korea Friendship Association’ for “conspiring” in favor of Kim Jong Un’s government and helping North Korea to evade some sanctions imposed by the United States, According to a note issued by the FBI.

“Alejandro Cao de Benós is wanted for allegedly conspiring to violate the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA). Specifically, he conspired to violate the sanctions imposed by the United States against the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK or North Korea) to collaborating with a US citizen to illicitly provide cryptocurrency-related services to the DPRK”specifies the note.

According to US intelligence services, at the beginning of 2018 Cao de Benós organized a conference in collaboration with “an American citizen” in which he would have maneuvered to “illegally provide blockchain technology and cryptocurrency services” to North Korea.

Cao de Benós assures that he is in Jerusalem

Cao de Benos would have recruited an American cryptocurrency expert organizing a conference on this matter that took place in Pyongyang in early 2018, as well as this person’s trip to the North Korean capital in April 2019, “in violation of US sanctions.”

“Cao de Benós allegedly coordinated the approval of the North Korean government for the expert’s participation in the conference and later continued to conspire to hold a second one on cryptocurrencies in 2020,” the FBI note states.
