Alberto Núñez Feijóo promises an "honest opposition" but demands "institutional respect" from the Government
Alberto Núñez Feijóo has begun his career as a senator promising to carry out an “honest opposition” although, to do so, he has demanded that the Government return to the “institutional respect” that both parties undertook to maintain and that, during the last speech of the President of the Executive , Pedro Sánchez, jumped calling the members of the PP “mugantes” to the surprise of the Galician.
The national leader of the Popular Party has appeared at a press conference after assuming the position of regional senator, lamenting that the Government has renounced the vision of the country that the two major parties have shared for the last 40 years and criticizes that “it does not defend the State and has decided to discredit a good part of the institutions in exchange for staying in power”.
Despite this, especially in light of the insults made by Sánchez towards his party that “deeply disliked” him, and of placing himself in the “antithesis of the sanchismo“, the leader of the opposition has announced that he will resume talks with the Government after the Andalusian elections. Closer is the first face-to-face meeting between the two in the Senate and that, unless there is a change in the presidential agenda, it will take place on June 7 .
Feijóo’s predisposition is maximum and he has even pointed out that if Sánchez wants to change the holding of the Debate on the State of the Nation to the Senate, he will accept it “with great pleasure” because, in Congress, his position to intervene is “quite engaged”.

Asked about the political news, Feijóo has accused the PSOE of giving its “approval” to the violation of the rule of law by agreeing with the independence movement on a new language law that does not set percentages for the use of Spanish in the classroom, in response to the sentence which marks a minimum of 25%. “It corresponds to the initial payment” of Sánchez to ERC for being president and the subsequent “partial payments” to stay in Moncloa, including pardons, the dismissal of the director of the CNI and, now, the linguistic pact.
“If the sentences are not even carried out, we are not in a state of law,” stressed Feijóo, who believes that the Government’s “umbrella” of non-compliance with this sentence by the independence movement confirms the “erosion” of the State.
Faced with a model of linguistic immersion where Catalan is the predominant language, Feijóo is in favor of a “balance” and has given Galicia as an example, where half of the classes are in Spanish and the other 50% are taught in Galician, in what the former president of the Xunta calls a “cordial bilingualism”.

Around the “regions and nationalities”
Without expressly mentioning the proposal of Ciudadanos to eliminate the expression “regions and nationalities” from article two of the Magna Carta, Feijóo has also defended the constitution “as a whole” “not cut into pieces”. He has also defended a Spain “away from extremism, confrontation and models of rupture”, which in his opinion the PSOE has “renounced”.
